|| Second Class Citizens ||
Second Class Citizens is the improv team of Fernando Pacheco, Kehau Rezentes, Jennifer Waihee, John Waihee, IV, and Jonathan Wong. The quintet first met and collaborated together as students in the Fundamentals of Improv with Shannon Winpenny training center in Honolulu, HI in 2008. While many Hawaii improv fans will recognize veteran performers Kehau and Jennifer through their work with IYFI and Loose Screws respectively; for Fern, John and Jonathan, 2CC represents their debut to the world of the “yes and.” The second graduating class out of FISW (ah yes, that’s where the name comes from!!!!), Second Class Citizens burst onto the Hawaii improv scene after 8 months of training in December 2008 bringing their unique brand of improv to the stage. Driven by a need to entertain, inspired by an unhealthy fascination with science fiction (Captains Kirk and Picard to be exact) and fueled by an unquenchable thirst for alcohol, 2CC thrives on hot crowds and has the unique capability to develop a piece and entertain an audience with but the mere suggestion of an everyday, common object (except for water bottles but most definitely beer bottles). Whether they are lampooning Honolulu mass transit, urban sprawl, Catholic priests or whether they are singing the joys of alcohol, hot air balloons or stunt jumping the Grand Canyon, once the strains of INSERT OUR ENTRANCE MUSIC HERE hits the sound system and the stage lights dim down, Laughtrack audiences will know it’s time for Second Class Citizens and LTC fans to have some fun! Fernando Pacheco: Fernando Pacheco is a graduate of the FISW, with the "Angelo Moore Award" for versatility. He currently sings and plays trombone for the ska/punk band, "PIMPBOT." Fernando is one of three founding members of the improv/sketch troupe, "Chocolate Squirrel" and is a guest performer with Hawaii's longest running improv team, "Loose Screws." Kehau Rezentes: Kehau Rezentes has been studying and performing improv for three years with various improv troupes. She came into improv by chance after attending a stand-up open mic at Sharkey’s Comedy Club in 2006. Since then Kehau as been a member of several improv groups and studied under the direction of Bobby Duncan, Garrick Paikai, R. Kevin Doyle, Jason Chinn and Shannon Winpenny.
“Performing” and making people laugh comes naturally to Kehau, for as long as she could speak she has managed to entertain people and now she is taking that energy and focus into improv. Late in the game her attention and interest in improve grows more and more and appreciation for improv is endless. Improv has been her greatest challenge in her life so far and she has run for public office as well as attended numerous protests and is currently a graduate student studying Secondary Education at UH-Manoa. Improv is a phenomenal art form and that is what drives Kehau to be a better performer for herself and her troupe. Jon Wong: Jonathan K. Wong is originally from Waipahu, HI. He graduated from Kamehameha Secondary School in 1996 and from there went on to earn an Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Honolulu Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. By day he’s a Technology Coordinator at Honolulu Community College where he provides technical training to faculty, staff and students, develops multimedia projects and researches new instructional technologies for implementation in the classroom. By night he’s a graduate student having done extensive coursework in Information Systems, Business Administration and Educational Technology. Aside from studying and performing Improv, he other hobbies include Internet blogging, studying the martial arts vegging in front of the tube, surfing the web and spending time with his wife Shelley and two dogs Sasha and Rocky. | |
